Shrewsbury Race for Life

Last Sunday, over 1300 ladies and children took part in the annual Shrewsbury Race for Life.


This year it was held in the Quarry, Shrewsbury and it is believed to have raised in excess of £113,000.

Runners and walkers covered all ages from babies in prams to 80 +.

What a fantastic day and well worth supporting.

The majority of participants either wore bright pink or blue with loads of supporters to cheer them on.

Charity Dinner at Shrewsbury Town Football Club 25/04/15

Pink Essentials recently attended a Charity Dinner at Shrewsbury Town Football Club organized by Mrs Jane Jervis.

Race for Life - Do you wear a sports bra?

With the fast approaching onset of the various Race For Life runs throughout Shropshire and the rest of the UK, are you wearing a sports bra?

If not, the constant movement of your breast tissue can result in the breasts becoming more stretched.  Once this happens, there is no remedy to restore the shape without having surgery.

In order to prevent this from happening, it is recommended that you wear a sports bra which is correctly fitted to the shape that you are now.  Not one from out of the cupboard that you use and perhaps isn't such a good fit as when you first purchased it.

Daily Mail - "Is your bra bad for you? 70% wear the wrong size

According to a recent write up in the Daily Mail, it was reported:

Millions of women could be harming their health by wearing the wrong size bra, experts warn.

Between 70 and 80 per cent have ill-fitting undergarments, risking neck, shoulder and back pain, pinched nerves - and even sagging breasts.

Poorly fitting underwear has also been linked to heartburn, skin rashes and even irritable bowel syndrome.

Now physiotherapists are urging women to check their bust measurements before they buy and get a sports bra to help prevent discomfort and premature sagging that can only be corrected by surgery.

Sammy Margo, of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, said taking the right steps to ensure the correct fit makes all the difference to health as well as posture and self-confidence.

'Wearing the wrong bra size not only looks bad but also puts you at risk of various health problems', she told mailOnline.  Sports bras are also essential for all women - especially those with a C-cup and above.

She added: 'Breasts are suspended by ligaments that will stretch from bouncing if not held firmly in position.  If you are well endowed, an ill-fitting, unsupportive bra can cause you to slump and fold your shoulders forward, and lead to painful postural disorders.'

The Society has produced a new breast care guide that includes details on how to check bra sizes correctly and stresses the importance of wearing a sports bra while exercising.

Richard Moore, a consultant osteopath and sports massage therapist in Nottingham, said problems arise from bras that are too tight around the ribs or offer a lack of support at the front.

This puts unnecessary pressure on the diaphragm, which has been linked to digestion problems.  Tight straps can also cause skin irritations and reduce blood flow, affecting the nerves and contributing to tension headaches.

Back in November, 2014, Pink Essentials had a visit from a local reporter to find out more about the business and how it now helps breast cancer ladies. 

Although originally Pink Essentials was set up to provide everyday lingerie via e-commerce, 70% of its business now responds to the needs of local breast cancer ladies.

It is also heavily involved in collecting #UnwantedBras in order to raise funds to provide a surgery bra to local ladies undergoing breast cancer surgery.
